Visit the UK capitals for Valentine’s Day

Nationalrail.com is here to help those of you with great recommendations who haven’t quite figured out what they’re doing for Valentine’s Day. What better way to spend the 14th than in one of the UK’s capital cities? Here are the details of the best places to visit to treat your special someone.

London

 

So much to do, so little time. London is a great getaway at any point in the year but is spectacular around Valentine’s Day.

With the romantic views around the English capital, you can’t go wrong. Visit the hotspots first; the London Eye, Big Ben, Tower Bridge, Houses of Parliament – the list goes on!

If you fancy a shopping spree, you can always head to Oxford Street. Trains run to all London stations.

Cardiff

 

This Welsh city is a breath of fresh air from the regular tourist spots.

For a spot of romance in your life, stroll around the Cardiff Castle rooftop garden. The scenic lake is Roath Park is perfect for any couple – why not hire a boat?

If you fancy a bite to eat, try High Tea for £19.50 per person in Pettigrew Tea Rooms. Nothing says Happy Valentine’s Day like chocolate dipped strawberries and luxury scones (that are flavoured with rose petals and pistachio nuts). Step off at Cardiff train station!

Edinburgh

 

Dunbar Close Garden is the perfect way to start your day in Edinburgh with independent coffee shops to pop in and out of at any point!

Calton Hill will provide you with some of the best panoramic views of Scotland.  If you like the idea of a modern date, you can always combine dinner and movie. Dominion cinema offers small, intimate viewings and is surrounded by restaurants.

Your nearest train station is Edinburgh Waverley. If you’re opting for a film and food, book your train tickets to Slateford train station.

Belfast
