Even MORE travel hacks and secrets revealed

12 August 2022

Travelling comes with a lot more challenges than one would like, but luckily we have a list of handy travel hacks, tips and tricks to change the way you travel. Whether it’s saving room when packing or ensuring you’re never left high and dry again, the following tips will make your travels a lot more fun in future.

#1 Roll your clothes for more space

One of the most effective travel hacks is simply to roll your clothes rather than fold them. This saves space, keeps your clothes free of wrinkles and makes it a lot easier to see what you’ve actually packed.

#2 When jet-lagged, move!

Although it’s often the last thing you want to do when you’re feeling the effects of jetlag, research shows that engaging in any form of exercise will help to battle the effects. Say goodbye to wasted days in bed and hello to the extra hours.

#3 Always pack an extension cable

Your electronics are an essential when travelling, meaning you need to be able to charge them throughout your journey. There’s nothing worse than fighting over a plug or discovering you can only charge one of your electronics. A handy extension cable will prevent this from happening and will also make you very popular in hostels and shared accommodations.

#4 Purchase tickets in advance

Waiting in long lines is something that thankfully can be avoided by pre-purchasing ‘skip the line’ tickets for any activities you’re going to participate in.

The same applies for buying plane and especially train tickets. Whenever possible, book train tickets national rail in advance so you have the peace of mind of having a guaranteed seat and know that you’ll be able to skip the queues at the station.

#5 Don’t exchange money for local currency at the airport

Although ATMS exist, make sure you don’t use them to exchange money at the airport. They usually charge a fee and have low exchange rates, amounts that are highly inflated, and are worse than a regular bank would be.

#6 Place fragile stickers on all of your luggage

This will ensure that your belongings are given extra special treatment, even if there isn’t anything fragile in your bags. Another benefit is that you won’t have to wait for as long to collect your luggage as anything marked fragile will be placed towards the top of the storage pile and sent out first.

#7 NEVER skip out on travel insurance

We all want to think that the worst won’t happen to us, but it’s always sensible to have insurance, especially if you’re travelling with valuables or making last minute decisions and going with the flow most days.

#8 Book overnight tickets to save on accommodation

This won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but one of the best ways to save money while travelling is to book overnight travel tickets. This essentially ensures free accommodation overnight, so make sure you have the essentials for a good night sleep and make the most of the free lodging.
